ATTENTION: POSTPONEMENT OF THE AGM OF THE MUSEUM BECAUSE OF SEVERE FLOODING.
Due to severe spring flooding, the Museum has decided to postpone its AGM to May 15th from 5.00 PM to 7.00 PM at the MRC’s old train station, 540 Berry street, Lachute.
Currently, access to the parking and the building of the Old Barracks of Carillon where the Museum is housed is prohibited until further notice to ensure the safety of the staff and building.

COMMUNIQUÉ DE PRESSE
LA DOCTEURE MAUDE ABBOTT (1869-1940) DE SAINT-ANDRÉ-D’ARGENTEUIL RECONNUE COMME PERSONNAGE HISTORIQUE PAR LE GOUVERNEMENT DU QUÉBEC
Vendredi, 8 mars 2019 – Saint-André-d’Argenteuil.

NOTE:
Merci!

This week, we are presenting memories of the Lowe Dairy in Lachute, which still operates a creamery (ice cream shop?) on Main Street.
Laiterie du Québec resumes its historic: ‘’ This small family dairy all began in 1944 with the association of two brothers, Emmett and Jim Lowe. Shortly afterward, three other brothers, Bernard, Clifford and Hughie, joined in to assure a good operation of the dairy, which was situated on Main Street in Lachute. With the help of four other employees, the five brothers were able to sell well over 700 quarts of milk a day. At first, deliveries were done with horse drawn wagon and soon after trucks were necessary. The deliveries were done seven days a week all year round.
With the purchase of several small dairies in the area in the 40’s, the dairy was able to increase it’s volume year after year.
In 1983, the dairy associated itself with « Casavant Dairy » of St-Jerôme, in a joint operation. In 1990, « Agropur » acquired « Casavant Dairy » and incorporated with « Natrel » in April of the same year. Since October 1991, all production has ceased. Today, Lowe still produce ice cream. It is the only production kept by this ancient dairy.’’

NOTE:
Hello, one of our readers of our latest pearl on the Lowe dairy mentions the important place that Mrs. Lydia Lowe, sister of the Lowe brothers, had in the company. Unfortunately, we do not have a photo of Mrs. Lowe in our archives. If some of you have some, we invite you to post them. Thank you!
