ABBOTT MEMORIAL

Aujourd’hui, nous vous présentons deux photographies de l’inauguration de l’espace commémoratif de l’Honorable Sir John Abbott à l’église Christ Church de Saint-André-d’Argenteuil en 1936.
 
La plaque commémorative se traduit comme suit : « À la gloire de Dieu et en mémoire de l’Honorable Sir John Abbott K.C.M.G. Q.C. D.C.I. Premier ministre du Canada – Né en 1821 dans la paroisse de St. Andrews. Fils aîné du fondateur de cette église, le Rev. Joseph Abbott M.A. il a formé et commandé les Argenteuils Rangers en 1862 et est devenu solliciteur général du Bas-Canada la même année. Doyen à la Faculté de droit de l’Université McGill et plus tard Gouverneur, il a été député pour le comté d’Argenteuil à l’Assemblée législative et à la Chambre des communes pendant vingt-trois ans et est devenu chef du Sénat en 1887 et le premier Premier ministre né au Canada de ce Dominion en 1891 et décédé en 1893 – Érigé en 1936 par ses compatriotes en reconnaissances de ses grands services pour le Canada ».

Today, we present two photographs of the inauguration of the Honorable Sir John Abbott’s Memorial at Christ Church in St. Andrews in 1936.
 
The commemorative plaque states: ‘’To the glory of God and in Memory of The Honourable Sir John Abbott K.C.M.G. Q.C. D.C.L. Prime Minister of Canada – Born in 1821 in this parish of St. Andrews. The eldest son of the founder of this church, the Rev. Joseph Abbott M.A. He raised and commanded the Argenteuil Rangers in 1862 and became solicitor general of Lower Canada that year. Dean of law at McGill University and later a Governor, he sat for Argenteuil in the legislative Assembly and in the House of Commons for twenty-three years and became leader of the Senate in 1887 and the first Canadian-born Prime Minister of this Dominion in 1891: and died in 1893.
